Delirious W.E.S.T 200 Miler, WA

Australia’s first, and only, point-to-point 200 miler was held last week, the Delirious W.E.S.T with entrants kicking off the adventure on Wednesday, February 20 and finishing the event between Friday, February 22 and Sunday, February 24. Starting in the old settlement town of Northcliffe (348km south of Perth, along the coastline) and runners heading east towards Albany, 28 out of 34 participants completed the event, including runners from Scotland, India, the USA and interstate – all had a 104 hour cut off.

Big efforts by all competitors left spectators, both on the ground and watching on the socials, speechless as they witnessed sheer determination, courage and strength by each competitor.

AURA’s Kay Bretz from Cremorne, NSW took home second male with his time of 68:52, a worthy podium finish considering the difficult terrain which included sand, dunes, and a hot first day.

Melissa Robertson from Long Jetty, NSW claimed second female in 76:39 while Amelia Griffith from Moonee Ponds, Vic took victory for third female in 79:32.

A stellar job by everyone participating, and AURA congratulations all its members for their achievement, including Shane Holstein (79:32), Robert Freitag (83:35), Andrew Hewat (86:39), David Giles (87:17), Glen Smetherham (87:17), George Mihalekellis (95:28), Matt Salinovich (95:28), Glenn Monaghan (100:03), Wayne McMurtrie (100:29) and Harmony Waite (101:15).

The next event on the AURA calendar will be held this weekend – the Lark Hill Dusk to Dawn Ultra on Saturday, March 2 in Port Kennedy, WA.
