APPLY FOR A RECORD
How to apply for an Australian ultra record
Australian Open and Age Group records are not awarded automatically. An athlete must lodge a formal application that meets the requirements of the 3.8 Records – Criteria and Applications Policy (Version 1, Revised 22 December 2025).
Before you apply, please read the Records Criteria page and Policy 3.8 for full details on eligibility, event requirements, shoe rules, timing and anti‑doping.
Step 1 – Check your eligibility
Before submitting a claim, confirm that:
- You are an Australian citizen.
- You were a current financial AUTRA member at the time of the performance and remain financial when applying.
- Your performance was achieved in an AUTRA‑listed and IAU‑labelled event (or overseas equivalent) on a compliant course with valid timing systems.
- Your shoes, event conditions, timing and participation numbers meet the criteria in Policy 3.8.
If any of these conditions are not met, your performance may not be ratified as an Australian record.
Step 2 – Athlete record application form
The athlete is responsible for initiating the record claim.
- Download and complete the Record Application Form (Appendix A):
- Record Application (DOCX)
- Record Application (PDF)
- Provide the following with your form:
- Personal and contact details.
- Event details (name, date, venue, distance/time, web link to results).
- Your age category on the date the race started.
- Confirmation of AUTRA membership.
- Proof of date of birth and citizenship (passport and/or birth certificate).
- Shoe declaration (brand, model, version) as required by the shoe policy in Section 7.
- Email the completed form and supporting documents to records@autra.asn.au within 6 months of the race start date.
Applications lodged after 6 months will not normally be considered unless there are exceptional circumstances (e.g. delayed documentation from overseas organisers).
Step 3 – Race Director and officials’ documentation
The Race Director and officials must complete the Race Director’s Certification Form (Appendix B PDF DOC) and submit it directly to the AUTRA Records Officer.
The Race Director should send the following to records@autra.asn.au:
- Completed Race Director’s Certification Form, confirming that the race complied with WA/IAU and event rules and that the performance was achieved as claimed.
- Timing operator details and evidence that timing systems functioned correctly (manual and/or electronic).
- Course or track measurement certificates and maps.
- Full official results, lap recording sheets and calculations (including intermediate splits where relevant).
- Referee reports and any IAU Label certificate.
- Time‑ and date‑stamped photographs or stopwatch images to support intermediate distance/time records.
The athlete is responsible for ensuring the Race Director and officials submit their documentation.
If you have any queries while completing the above please contact Tia Jones (Records Officer) at records@autra.asn.au
