The running of the BottleButt Bash Trail Run was held on 22 August in Herons Creek, NSW along and through the Burrawan State Forest with stunning tracks and trails.

The Old BottleButt tree is the main feature, with race directors wanting to share the magic of the area with everyone – hence the race and distance options of a 10km, 21km and 42km.

In the 42km category, top 3 spots for the men went to Josh Hockley (3:24:58), Nathan Robins (3:40:30) and Paul Wood (3:44:28) whilst for the women podium finishes were claimed by Emma-Leigh Heighway (4:11:37), Jennifer Hynes (4:19:39) and Kelly Glanville 4:41:18).

Congratulations to all our AURA members who participated in the BottleButt Bash Trail Run including Sinclair Park (4:06:48), Akira Suzuki (4:49:02) and David Bennie (5:10:31).

IAU 6hr Virtual Global Solidarity Run

This weekend is the IAU’s 6hr Virtual Global Solidarity Run, whereby all runners participating will have two days to complete their virtual run.

In case you missed it in the last report, the Aussie women’s team include Cassie Smith (Qld), Julia Mackay (WA), Emma Luscombe (WA), Harmony Waite (WA), Amelia Griffith (Vic), Donna Urquhart (Vic), Karen Mickle (Vic), Heather Hawkins (NSW) and Kristen Brace (NSW).

For the men’s team it will be Clay Dawson (Qld), Dan Simonds (Qld), Barry Loveday (Qld), Matthew Eckford (Qld), Jeremy Rankin (ACT), Patrick O’Leary (Vic), Greg Wilson (Vic), Joe Ward (NSW) and Stephen Redfern (NSW).

Coming up

The Salming Bibra Lake Running Festival is being held this Sunday, 30 August in Bibra Lake, WA whereby runners have been offered a 50km option along a flat and fast course. This year, the event will feature some time pacers in the marathon distance with Phil Gore pacing for 3hr time chasers, Chris Martin and Jerry Peters for 3.30hr chasers, AURA’s Rob Collins for 4hr chasers, and Steven Sims for 5hr. AURA members running in the 50km (at time of writing) include Barbara Fieberg, Amy Glen, Margie Hadley and Joshua Kuhn whilst we also have AURA members participating in the marathon – Jacqueline Kellerman, Kevin Matthews and Jon Pendse. Happy running to everyone!

Also this weekend on 30 August will be the Antsy for Anstey 62km trail run in Vista, SA. The event itself supports Women’s Safety Services SA and Northern Adelaide Domestic Violence Services, helping local women and children rise above domestic abuse.

Not to be outdone, a third AURA-listed event is on the cards for Sunday – the Kuranda to Port Douglas Ultra, offering participants a 64km trail distance in Qld. AUTRA statement regarding Snowies Trail Run Festival

AUTRA has been in direct contact with the organisers of the Snowies Trail Run Festival, In2Adventure, regarding a recent situation involving an athlete and the event’s in‑person safety briefing requirements. In2Adventure has confirmed that the situation was discussed directly with the athlete at the time. From In2Adventure’s account, and for the purpose of clarifying the public record, AUTRA notes the following points: At no stage was the athlete prevented from breastfeeding at the event. The organiser states that the following options were offered to enable the athlete to participate while still meeting safety requirements: a quiet and private space where she could breastfeed while still being present at the briefing; the option to receive the required briefing at the 30 km start line after the start; and the option to change her registration to the 21 km event, where the briefing is conducted on the start line. At no stage prior to event registration on Saturday night did the athlete contact the organiser to advise of her situation or request alternative arrangements, which limited what could be put in place at the time. Face‑to‑face safety briefings have always been a requirement for In2Adventure events.
