FINAL 2023 POINTS COMPETITION RESULTS

AURA has released final results of the 2023 AURA Points Competition

Geoffrey Langhans of South Australia took out the top spot with a superlative 113 points (the highest score ever achieved in the points competition). He completed 15 AURA-listed events during the year, contributed five magazine articles to Ultramag, and volunteered at a further six AURA events.

In second place was WA's Phil Gore, scoring 90 points. Phil completed seven AURA-listed events (winning all except one where he finished second), including setting a new World Record in the Backyard Ultra format at the Australian Backyard Masters in June. Phil contributed five magazine articles to Ultramag during the year, and volunteered at a further three AURA events.

And in third place was NSW's Grant Brisbin scoring 58 points.  Grant had an outstanding year, completing three AURA-listed events and representing Australia at the IAU 24h WC in Taipai in December.   Grant achieved two A-level performances in the 24h format (242.849km at Southern Sydney Ultra in June, and 254.335km at the IAU 24h WC).

With $3950 of prize money to be distributed among the top ten finishers, the AURA Points Competition awards points across a five different categories:

  • Cat 1 - for each finish in an AURA-listed ultra marathon (45km or greater)
  • Cat 2 - first, second or third place AURA member (male and female awarded separately)
  • Cat 3 - for breaking national or world ultramarathon records
  • Cat 4 - for achieving IAU benchmark performance in 50km, 100km or 24h
  • Cat 5 - for event organisation & volunteering, Ultramag contributions or significant contribution in the running of AURA
