UNREASONABLE EAST 200 & 100 Miler

The Unreasonable East 200 & 100 Miler was held last week, from 22-27 August, in far north Qld offering a beautiful start line on the beach and runners getting to experience traversing between Port Douglas, Kuranda and Cairns.

In the Men’s 200 miler, AURA member Ben Nicholls from Timboon, Vic took out the top gong, completing the distance in 63:16:19 whilst another AURA member, Joshua Duff from Bentley Park, Qld took 2nd Male with 64:37:12. Third Male went to Tim Cooke in 73:22:50.

In the Women’s 200 miler, podium finishers were Claire Healy (77:23:16), Julie Sager (82:40:20) and Zelena Jaroslava (85:35:10).

Big congratulations to our AURA members who raced and finished in the 200 miler, including Doug Bartlett (84:15:05), Harmony Waite (105:09:14) and Kirsten Maplestone (119:51:55).

In the Men’s 100 miler, top spots went to Joe Buck (31:09:10), Shaun Burn (38:38:10) and Ben Cavin (42:53:20) whilst in the Women’s 100 miler podium finishes were awarded to Akane Goode (37:36:05), Geordi Maclean (44:41:10) and Lucy Butler (46:47:30).

RUN LARAPINTA

Run Larapinta is a 4-day, 4-stage trail race that appears on many ultra runners’ bucket lists because of its spectacular scenery on the iconic Larapinta Trail in the NT. This year’s edition was held from 24-27 August, offering a long course and a short course – The Malbunka (long course) covers a total of 128km whilst The Nanatjira (short course) is 82km altogether. Results below are the final positions after each stage, combined.

In the Men’s Malbunka, top spots were awarded to Corey Milner (12:15:43), Troy Wilson (14:41:39) and Marc Woods (15:31:33).

In the Women’s Malbunka, 1st Female went to Kate Cush (15:47:58) whilst AURA’s very own Lindsay Hamilton from Forde, ACT secured 2nd Female after a 4-day stage race totalling 17:38:48, and 3rd Female was won by AURA member Sally Theobald from Trafalgar South, Vic after a total of 17:42:35.

Congratulations to our AURA members who raced in the Malbunka, including Amanda Spackman from Elermore Vale, NSW who finished all stages with a total of 21:15:24, and Barb Eastwood from Dingley Village, Vic whose total was 26:11:10.

In the Men’s Nanatjira, podium positions went to Luke Gordon (9:58:54), Dylan Collings (10:36:11) and David Ross (11:26:51).

For the Women’s Nanatjira, it was Anabel Thomas (11:19:49), Claire Vincent (12:35:00) and Mel Quilliam (13:03:01).

Congratulations to all our AURA members who ran in the Nanatjira course, including Gregory Jenkins from Bella Vista, NSW who finished his 4-day stage race in a total of 12:12:17.

BRIGHT RUNNING FESTIVAL

The Bright Running Festival was held on Sunday, 27 August in Bright Vic. We are still awaiting official results and will report on those as soon as they become available.

INSIDER UPDATES

There’s a strong contingent of Aussies over in Chamonix, France for the 20th running of UTMB Mont Blanc this week. With over 200 Australians tackling a whole number of events, we want to wish each and every one of them the very best with their chosen race.

UPCOMING EVENTS

The GV Last Man Standing will kick off the new month from 9-13 September in Shepparton, Vic while that same weekend we have the Sri Chinmoy Canberra Trail 100 (doubling up as the Australian Trail Long Course Championships) on 10 September in Canberra, ACT and the Barossa Run in North Adelaide, SA on 10 September also.

No Time To Die Frontyard Ultra in Adelaide, SA will be from 15-17 September and Surf Coast Century kicks off 16 September in Anglesea, Vic.

It will be a busy end-of-the-month with the Yurrebilla 56k Ultra in Athelstone, SA on 24 September, Duval Dam Buster Trail Run in Armidale, NSW on 24 September, and Bricks Backyard Ultra in St Ives, NSW from 30 September.

Location : Bangkok, Thailand Dates : November 21 - 24 2025 Role Type : Volunteer Position Time Commitment : Pre event planning + Travel Application Deadline : 17th September 2025 Thank you for your interest in supporting the Australian team for the 2025 IAU Asian 100k Championships. This role goes far beyond logistics. It’s about leadership, inclusion, and creating a positive, empowering environment for athletes competing on the world stage. AUTRA is committed to opening doors for those outside traditional pathways. We strongly encourage applications from coaches, former athletes, club leaders, volunteers, and passionate community members. You don’t need to have served on a board or managed a team before as we’re looking for people who genuinely care, are highly organised, and can proudly represent our athletes and country. Role Overview As Team Manager, you’ll work closely with AUTRA President Gary Mullins and Vice President Geoff Russell to prepare and support the national team before and during the championship. Pre-Departure Australia Act as the main contact for selected athletes and crew Assist with final entry forms and travel planning Prepare a Championships Agenda in alliance with the Team Managers Agreement Document Coordinate flights, uniforms, and team communications Help identify and organise crew support Attend online team planning meetings On the Ground in Thailand Be present and ready as athletes arrive Ensure all athlete needs are met so they can focus fully on their race Attend all technical meetings and represent the team professionally Coordinate team attendance at the opening and closing ceremonies Ensure the team and crew are prepared, organised, and calm Address any issues that arise with efficiency and discretion Provide hands on leadership and moral support throughout the race Support Provided Accommodation in Bangkok for 3 - 4 nights will be provided by AUTRA An official team uniform will be supplied A volunteer allowance of $1500 will be provided to acknowledge your time and service during the championship period.
