Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our bumper end-of-year edition of Ultramag, due out this week! Believe it or not, it’s our biggest edition ever! But never fear…if you haven’t submitted a story or race report yet, you can do so for our January edition – remember, it doesn’t have to be about an AURA listed event either! Email ultramag@aura.asn.auwith your reports and photos.

NARRABEEN ALLNIGHTER

The Narrabeen Allnighter was held on the weekend of 10-11 December in Narrabeen, NSW offering a multi-lap trail race to see who can run the furthest distance in 12 hours. It can be done solo or in teams of two.

It’s held on a 5.275km out-and-back trail loop adjacent to Narrabeen Lake, 20km north of Sydney.

Congratulations to AURA’s Kevin Muller from Wodonga, Vic who secured himself 1st Male in the 12hr Solo, finishing up with a total of 121.311km. Second Male went to Paolo Bevilacqua (116.036km) and 3rd was won by Tommy Goodall (110.762km.

The women’s top spot was also claimed by an AURA member, with Jennifer White from Helensburgh, NSW taking the gong after completing 113.399km.Tania Dorahy took 2nd Female with 105.488km while AURA member Donna Urquhart from Black Rock, Vic lay claim to 3rd Female after securing herself a total of 102.850km.

Well done to all our AURA members who ran in the Narrabeen Allnighter, including Philip Balnave (89.664km), Debbie Maher (87.027km), Jeremy Rankin (79.116km), Nicole Kruse (73.841km), Leah Weeden (73.841km), Victor Correa(3.841km), Eddy Oba (68.567km) and Emma-Leigh Heiland (29.009km).

6 INCH TRAIL MARATHON

6 Inch was held over the weekend, on 18 December in the south west of WA, providing either a full (47km) or half (23km) distance for those who love the trails. There’s always a story to go along with 6 Inch…whether it’s remembered as ‘the hot year’, ‘the wet year’ or ‘the not year’, this year it will be known as the year where flooding in the east coast slowed down transport systems to a snail’s pace, meaning medals will not arrive until after 23 December.

But let’s remember the best thing about the running community – the people.

Homemade medals made out of Christmas tags with handwritten messages on each one were created, as were personally painted tongue depressors/sticks to be handed out to each finisher in both the 6 Inch and 3 Inch events.

In the Men’s 6 Inch distance, the top spot went to AURA’s very own Michael Carroll from Aisnlie, ACT who finished 1st in a time of 3:28:58. Second Male went to Ally Willcox (3:44:20) and 3rd Male was won by Jamal Fozdar (3:47:43).

In the Women’s 6 Inch, podium finishes were taken by Kathryn Watt (3:53:07), Lauren French (3:57:46) and Steph Shaw (4:29:13).

Congratulations to all our AURA members who ran in 6 Inch, including Mitchell Crook (4:11:53), Yevhen Kovalyshen(4:22:44), Kevin Matthews (4:48:36), Beck Hefferon (4:51:11), Jessica Smith (4:58:09), Giovanni De Vita (5:05:46), Jeff Gray (5:06:45), Nicola Hibbert (5:16:26), Meghann Coffey (2:35:28), Harmony Waite (5:21:20), Barbara Fieberg (5:42:21), Chris Kirkwood (5:49:50), Nicola Walters (6:14:31), Martyn Flahive (6:15:01), Bob Colligan (6:27:39), Tristan Cameron (6:31:26), Mike Gibbon (6:40:35), Mark Caldwell (6:56:29), Steven Lewis (7:10:35), Jutta Kober (7:44:20), Heath Watkins (7:44:21), Mark Sewell (7:46:48), Linda Phillips (8:00:07) and John Fisher (8:03:33).
