Last night we held our AGM and the new committee is pleased to announce that the following elections for positions took place and here are the results.
President – SIMONE HAYES
Vice President – CORRINA BLACK
Secretary – STEPHEN REDFERN
Treasurer – ANNABEL HEPWORTH
Governance Officer – MYRON (ZED) ZLOTNICK
Director of Events – LISA SHERMAN
The last two positions are newly created positions, proposed by the 2023 committee, and were voted on by members last night.
We congratulate the new committee after an overwhelming vote of confidence shone through from our members, and I really look forward to working with you all in the coming year.
The exciting news is that members voted to go ahead with the landmark name change to AUTRA – a powerful move that will bring cohesion to our sport, bringing unprecedented benefits to our grassroots and elites alike. In due course, when our paperwork is complete, we will be officially known at the Australian Ultra and Trail Runners Association.
Members also voted in favour of the changes to the incorporated association’s Rules to include the word ‘trail’ with ultra. This will formally recognise that trail running of all distances will be under the AUTRA umbrella and we will be one united and undivided sport.

For the past year AURA has been in discussion with the trail associations in Australia to look at forming one large federation that recognises both ultra and trail as one.
In November 2023 we held a conference to further investigate the possibility of bringing the trail community into our association and what the benefits would be for AURA and its members.
What ensued was an overwhelming realisation that this move needs to happen to ensure the longevity of AURA.
We saw only positives, and forged ahead with a plan to take AURA into the next decade and beyond as a strong and productive association, whilst still preserving its purpose and rich history which is of the utmost importance to us.

The Emus representing the green and gold at the IAU 24hr Asia & Oceania Championships, which is being held at the Australian 24hr Invitational at the AIS, Canberra - and which is also doubling up as the 2024 Australian 24hr Championships!

Lithgow Ridgy Didge Trail Run Festival, hosted by Blue Mountains Fitness, starts Saturday at Hassans Walls Reserve, NSW and offers a 7km, 13km, 22km, 30km, Mara and of course, an ultra of 50km.
Emails have gone out for those who are registered, and all eyes are currently on the weather. There’s a bit of light rain on the course and a bit of a fog – skin’s waterproof, so at this stage it’s full steam ahead. Keep an eye on the Blue Mountains Fitness FB page for updates.

It’s been a favourite for trail lovers for decades.
Belair National Park is one of Australia’s oldest national parks, established back in 1891, and now it’s become the epicentre for the incredible Belair Marathon.
It’s not for faint hearted, with close to 1500m of elevation gain. But it’s an undeniably appreciated environment with stunning lands and scenery. Distances on offer include a 5k, 10k and half marathon, whilst for the ultra runner in us, there’s a 50k.

The inaugural Sri Chinmoy Road 100 is on this Saturday!
So exciting! It’s also doubling up as the Australian 100k Championships, and we want to know if you’re entered and ready to tackle it!
It will be held in and around Commonwealth Park, Canberra on a certified 5km loop on shared pathways alongside Lake Burley Griffin.

The Sandman 50 is a 50km even from Old Dunsborough boat ramp to Busselton Jetty and back. The course is entirely on the beach at low tide, with the nominal race line being within 3m of the water’s edge.
Kicks off Saturday, 24 February for solo entrants and teams of two.
This is a beautiful run with the majority of it done while the moon is up, and we’d love to hear who from our members is racing.

🦘Tomorrow’s the day of ADU!
The Australia Day Ultra is one of those events so many West Aussies look forward to on the AURA calendar of events. It’s held on what’s considered a flat and fast out-and-back course along the foreshore of Australind, a little town about 175km south of Perth, with options of a 25km, 50km, 75km and 100km.
This is one of those really beautiful courses because it’s right along the water, and the start/finish is just a hive of activity every time runners come through.
It’s the perfect PB course.

Who’s running in the Great Southern Stage Run this weekend?!
Kicking off Thursday, 16 November and running (pun intended!) all the way through to Saturday, 18 November the Great Southern Stage Run will cater to anyone and everyone signed up for the 3-day stage race along the Great Southern region of WA.
It’s a 200km course from the Valley of the Giants at Walpole to the Torndirrup Peninsula at Albany, and runners will traverse rugged coastline on remote beaches, windswept horizons and sheer granite cliffs.

This Sunday (5 Nov) is the IAU World 50km Road Championships in Hyderabad, India at Sukoon Ground at the University of Hyderabad.
The Aussie flag will be represented by Wayne Spies (Captain), Ben MacCronan and Tim Brimelow, who are all raring to go. The course has been listed as a 5km loop (due to a changed location, it is now 5km instead of the earlier 10km) with a flat asphalt surface.
A total of 20 federations will be taking part, with 102 athletes participating.
Start time is 7am (930am WST).

Bondi to Manly Ultra is here!
Back again this weekend on Saturday, 28 October the Bondi to Manly Ultra provides an 80km solo or 80km relay along and around Sydney Harbour.
An urban ultra event, runners start at Bondi Pavilion, run along the walking track and then take in all the spectacular views Sydney has to offer. It's a not-for-profit run too, with all proceeds donated to Bondi to Manly Walk Supporters and reinvested into protecting, preserving and enhancing the Bondi to Manly walking track.
