Hume & Hovell, NSW

The Hume & Hovell 100mi, 100km and 50km events were held on Saturday (October 12) in Tumbarumba, NSW with the 100km doubling up as AURA’s National Trail Championships (long course).

Kicking off the results for the 100km championships (whereby podium positions are given to the top three AURA members who must be members before the race), Andrew McConnell from Watson, ACT secured top spot in the men’s division with a total time of 10:11:28 whilst Scott Richmond from Bangor, NSW held on for 2nd with 10:43:01 and Richard Storrier from Wagga Wagga, NSW took 3rd with 10:47:14.

In the women’s event for the championships, Karen Mickle from Kensington, Vic took 1st following her finish of 14:24:33, whilst Jodie Oborne from Balmoral, Qld took 2nd in 14:44:53 and Leah Weeden from Dubbo, NSW held on for 3rd with 19:29:07.

In overall standings, the men’s podium remained unchanged with McConnell, Richmond and Storrier taking honours, whilst for the women it was Kelly Glanville 1st (14:03:39), Mickle 2nd, and Rochelle Tregear 3rd (14:27:00).

Congratulations to all our AURA members who ran in the 100km including Daniel Grunbaum (11:03:41), Andrew Donaldson (12:04:40), Michael Sullivan (17:26:43), Ron Singh (19:00:14), Chris Beavon and Mallani Moloney.

In the 100mi, overall finishing spots for the women went to AURA’s very own Melissa Robertson from Long Jetty, NSW in 1st with 27:55:04, and 2nd went to Julie Brock (29:39:57). 

For the men’s 100mi, podium spots went to Grant Brisbin (19:46:29), Joe Ward (21:52:57) and Matt Pilley (24:01:04).

Well done to all our AURA members in the 100mi including Matthew Salinovich (26:50:03), Jonathan Miller (27:41:21), David Campbell (28:13:23), Karen Hayward (30:02:17), Roylene Stanley and David Bennie.

On to the 50km event at Hume & Hovell, AURA’s own David Bailey from Tolmans Hill, Tas took control of the race and took 1st male with a large 19 minute lead ahead of the 2nd place getter. He crossed the finish line in 4:39:00 whilst Neil Spreitzer finished the race in 4:58:11. Aaron Smith got 3rd (5:02:14). 

For the women Sally Towse took 1st (5:17:16), Claire Hollis 2nd (5:39:58) and Vanessa Cullen 3rd (6:26:59).

All results are currently provisional.

Pemberton Trail Fest, WA

The 50km Pemberton Trail Fest was also held at the weekend in Pemberton, WA amongst the karri forests there. Well done to AURA members Sarah Dawson and Harmony Waite who completed the 50km in 6:51:39 and 6:54:48 respectively.

Coming up on the AURA calendar

This weekend coming up on the AURA calendar we see the Great Ocean Walk GOW100s in Apollo Bay, Vic and the Blackall 100 in Hinterland, Qld both on Saturday, October 19.

There are four events being held on Saturday, October 26 and they include the IAU 24 Hour World Championships in Albi, France; Heysen 105 in Newland Hill, SA; and the Ned Kelly Chase in Wangaratta, Vic.

Sunday, October 27 sees the Mico RunningWorks Ultra at The Spectacles, WA.

This role goes far beyond logistics. It’s about leadership, inclusion, and creating a positive, empowering environment for athletes competing on the world stage. AUTRA is committed to opening doors for those outside traditional pathways. We strongly encourage applications from coaches, former athletes, club leaders, volunteers, and passionate community members. You don’t need to have served on a board or managed a team before as we’re looking for people who genuinely care, are highly organised, and can proudly represent our athletes and country. Role Overview As Team Manager, you’ll work closely with AUTRA President Gary Mullins and Vice President Geoff Russell to prepare and support the national team before and during the championship. Pre-Departure Australia Act as the main contact for selected athletes and crew Assist with final entry forms and travel planning Prepare a Championships Agenda in alliance with the Team Managers Agreement Document Coordinate flights, uniforms, and team communications Help identify and organise crew support Attend online team planning meetings On the Ground in Thailand Be present and ready as athletes arrive Ensure all athlete needs are met so they can focus fully on their race Attend all technical meetings and represent the team professionally Coordinate team attendance at the opening and closing ceremonies Ensure the team and crew are prepared, organised, and calm Address any issues that arise with efficiency and discretion Provide hands on leadership and moral support throughout the race Support Provided Accommodation in Bangkok for 3 - 4 nights will be provided by AUTRA An official team uniform will be supplied A volunteer allowance of $1500 will be provided to acknowledge your time and service during the championship period.
