From The President (OCTOBER 2025)
October 2025
What a month for the Australian trail and ultra running scene. An amazing 5 weeks, where we are celebrating the runners.
At the Trail World Championships, Australia finished 11th as a team, with 17 of our runners placing inside the top 50% of their race, an incredible achievement on the world stage and a real sign of what is to come.
Then came the 24-Hour World Championships, where history was made. Holly Ranson became Australia’s first ever individual medallist at a 24-hour world event claiming silver and leading the women’s team to an incredible team silver. Our men’s team fought courageously all the way through, showing the grit, heart, and unity that define our sport.
And just when you thought the month couldn’t get any better Phil Gore was crowned Backyard Ultra World Champion!
These results aren’t just medals and numbers. They’re proof that Australian runners can stand proudly among the world’s best. They’re a celebration of every kilometre run, every volunteer who gives their time, and every race director who builds the stage for athletes to shine, coaches, family, and supporters.
Congratulations to everyone involved. You inspire so many people.
In just a few days, we’ll launch the AUTRA Playbook, our roadmap for the future. It’s about investing back into the sport: into our members, runners, race directors, volunteers, and the grassroots community that fuels it all. It’s about ensuring the next generation of trail and ultra runners have even more opportunities, support, and pathways to chase their dreams.
This is a moment to celebrate not just the medals, but the movement.
The future of trail and ultra running in Australia is bright, and it’s only getting brighter.
Gary Mullins
President, AUTRA
