The 2026 Backyard Ultra World Team Championships is an invite-only international ultra-running event featuring Australia’s top 15 Backyard Ultra athletes, competing as Team Australia against nations from around the world.
Athletes will compete in the Backyard Ultra format, completing a 6.7056 km loop every hour, on the hour, until only one runner remains.
The World Team Championships is a global endurance event featuring more than 1,000 runners from over 70 countries. Each nation fields its strongest 15 Backyard Ultra athletes, with teams competing on home-based courses at the same global start time to determine the strongest running nation on earth.
Each runner’s completed loops contribute to a nation’s total score. The country with the highest combined loop tally across all runners is crowned World Champion.

Hosted by Red’s Backyard Ultra, the Australian event will be staged at Integral Energy Park, Kembla Grange, NSW.
